Alicia Key’s Mission: end AIDS in Africa

Twenty-five million people worldwide have died of AIDS. Alicia Keys – a well known singer- got upset …then decided to do something about it. She is the co-founder and global ambassador of “Keep a Child Alive organization”. Alicia is speaking at high schools and universities for round table discussions with students all over America. Alicia also met with the First Lady, Michelle Obama. This is what Alicia says, listen to her:

“I was invited to Africa to do a concert in 2002, and while I was there, I went to AIDS hospitals. People begged me to help them get drugs that weren’t available to them. It was crazy, so many of them were younger than me and suffering from things that I have never had to deal with. I realized that this is our generation’s holocaust. There are now 13 million children in sub-Saharan Africa who are orphans because their parents have died of AIDS, many of them are now forced to raise their brothers and sisters. But, we, in America have access to medicine that can help people with HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) live a longer life. Why shouldn’t everyone have the same chance? This devastating disease has created over 13 million orphans in Africa alone. Keep a child alive funds the testing and treatment of HIV/AIDS in impoverished countries, like Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. One hundred percent of the monthly donations go to hospitals and orphanages in Africa and India. They pay for everything from medicine to doctors’ visits to construction of orphanages.  This has become a race against time, not just for Africa but for the entire human race.... Mission principale d'Alicia : en finir avec le SIDA en Afrique

Vingt-cinq millions de personnes, à travers le monde, sont décédées du SIDA. Alicia Keys -une chanteuse connue- a été très touchée… et a décidé d’agir. Elle est le co-fondateur et l'ambassadrice de l’organisation «Keep a Child Alive ». Aujourd’hui Alicia anime des tables rondes dans les lycées et universités et sensibilise les étudiants à travers toute l’Amérique. Alicia a même rencontré la première Dame, Madame Michelle Obama.  Ecoutons ce que nous dit Alicia :

« J'ai été invitée en 2002 pour faire un concert en Afrique  et tandis que j'étais là-bas, je me suis rendue dans les hôpitaux de malades du SIDA. Les gens m’ont suppliée  afin que je les aide à obtenir les médicaments qui ne sont pas disponibles. C’était dingue, bon nombre d'entre eux étaient plus jeunes que moi et souffraient  de choses auxquelles je n'avais jamais été confrontée. Je réalisais que c'était l'holocauste de notre génération. Il y a maintenant  plus de 13 millions d'enfants en Afrique sub-saharienne qui sont des orphelins parce que leurs parents sont morts du SIDA, bon nombre d'entre eux sont forcés d'élever seuls leurs frères et sœurs. Cependant, nous, en Amérique nous avons accès aux soins qui peuvent aider des personnes porteuses du VIH (le virus qui cause le SIDA) à vivre plus longtemps. Et pourquoi donc chacun n’aurait-il pas la même chance ?

Cette maladie dévastatrice a engendré  plus de 13 millions d'orphelins  en Afrique seulement.  Les fonds de « Keep a Child Alive » couvrent les frais des expérimentations ainsi que le traitement du VIH/SIDA dans les pays pauvres, comme le Kenya, le Rwanda et l'Ouganda. Cent pour cent des donations mensuelles vont aux hôpitaux et aux orphelinats en Afrique et en Inde. Cet argent finance les médicaments, les visites médicales ainsi que la construction d’orphelinats.  Ces actions sont une course contre la montre, pas simplement pour l'Afrique mais pour la race humaine entière….
